Email Migration Tool

Migration Monkey handles website and mailbox moves from the same credit system. Email jobs are sized by mailbox GB, mailbox count, provider auth path, throttling risk, destination quota, and whether the move can use direct mailbox-to-mailbox transfer.

Default email mode is no-custody IMAP/API bridge. Migration Monkey stores consent, job state, message counts, hashes, warnings, and billing metadata. Message bodies are not stored by Migration Monkey unless the owner explicitly chooses an assisted encrypted relay for a hard mailbox case.

Supported Email Routes

Generic IMAP migrationMove mail between hosts that expose IMAP, including many cPanel, Dovecot, Courier, Titan, iCloud, GoDaddy, and webmail providers. Microsoft 365 migrationPlan Microsoft 365, Office 365, Outlook.com, Hotmail, Exchange Online, and OAuth-backed IMAP routes. Gmail and Workspace migrationMove personal Gmail or Google Workspace mail with OAuth, Gmail API, IMAP, labels, all-mail behavior, and quota checks. Free mailbox migrationCopy long-lived personal mailboxes between Gmail, Outlook/Hotmail, Yahoo, iCloud, AOL, and other free accounts. cPanel and Zoho migrationMove mailbox data into or out of cPanel and Zoho while accounting for accounts, forwarders, IMAP limits, and folder reports.

How The Bridge Works

The source mailbox is analyzed first: mailbox size, folder count, message count, largest messages, special folders, labels, throttling risk, and whether IMAP or provider API access is available. The destination is checked for available quota, existing folders, mailbox creation status, and import policy.

When both sides can be reached directly, Migration Monkey coordinates the copy and the two mail systems exchange messages. For Google and Microsoft routes, OAuth or provider-specific auth is preferred. For consumer IMAP hosts, app passwords are used only when the provider supports them and the owner approves that path.

When Relay Is Needed

Most mailbox moves should not need Migration Monkey to store mail. Assisted encrypted relay exists for hard cases: one provider blocks direct bridge access, a customer needs a staged retry window, or the destination requires an import package that cannot be streamed directly. That mode is opt-in, separately logged, encrypted, and short-retention.

Credit Math

Generic IMAP starts lower because it usually needs mailbox GB, account count, and folder sync. Gmail and Microsoft 365 price higher because OAuth, throttling, label/folder mapping, tenant policy, and provider limits add operational work. A single standard mailbox is usually sized to stay inside the 500-credit Website owner pack unless it is unusually large, heavily throttled, or requires assisted relay.

Verification

After copy, verify total folder counts, recent messages, sent mail, archives, all-mail behavior, spam/trash choices, unread/read state, attachment-heavy messages, aliases, forwarding, and MX cutover. For business domains, keep the old mailbox available long enough for one final delta pass after DNS changes settle.
